Dimond handed Chugiak its first loss of the season 4-1 on Tuesday, April 16 at The Dome. Holly Brehmer scored the lone goal for the Mustangs, who fell to 2-1-2 in the Cook Inlet Conference and 4-1-2 overall.

Tyler Rohde is the best hurdler in Alaska. He proved that last year when he set a state record in the 110-meter hurdles at the ASAA Class 4A State Track and Field Championships.

Chugiak’s Tyler Rohde and Eagle River’s Scout Warners proved that last week by winning the pentathlon at the Big “C” Relays on Friday and Saturday, April 5-6 at The Dome. Six athletes competed in the invitation-only event, which featured the 100-meter dash, 300 hurdles, high jump, shot put and 800.

The Mustangs’ 90 points put them 33 points ahead of Eagle River and Bartlett, who tied for second. Eagle River’s girls tied for second with West with 69 points apiece, just three behind first-place Service. Chugiak’s girls finished fifth as a team.

Four different Mustangs scored as Chugiak’s boys picked up their first Cook Inlet Conference soccer win Saturday, March 30 at The Dome.

For the second straight season, Birchwood Christian School’s season ended against Yakutat at Sullivan Arena. This year, however, the Eagles got the better of the Warriors and won the boys Class 1A state basketball consolation final 51-42 on March 20. Last season, BCS downed Yakutat in the 2A third-place game.

Ashleigh Sitz and Alexis Day scored goals for Chugiak (1-0-1), which played to a 2-2 draw with Service on Saturday, March 23 at The Dome. Trailing by one, the Cougars tied the game in stoppage time in the second half.
