Velma Grace Coleman, 83, passed away on April 9, 2014, at Prestige Care in Anchorage. Service was on April 14, 2014, at Eagle River Grace Brethren Church. Grady J. Pennell III and Chaplain Keith Olson of Prestige Care officiated.
Sister Camilla (Johanna) Menting died April 3, 2014, at the age of 85. A memorial Mass was held Friday April 11th at 9:00 am at St. Andrew Catholic Church in Eagle River, officiated by Archbishop Roger Schwietz.
Carol Louise Jones, Alaskan pioneer and homesteader, passed away of heart failure April 1, 2014, at Matsu Regional Medical Center. She was 82. A service was held on April 7 at Kehl’s Palmer Mortuary, followed by a graveside service at Ft. Richardson National Cemetery on April 8.
Longtime Eagle River resident Mary Sundt, 79, lost her battle with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis on March 25th, 2014. She passed peacefully in her home, surrounded by loving friends and family. Per her wishes her ashes will be scattered on the property where she lived for the past 52 years, alongside the ashes of her husband.
Longtime Alaskan resident, Diane Hodges, 67, passed away Wednesday, March 26, 2014, at her home in Chugiak after a short illness. Funeral services were held April 9 at the Anchorage Funeral Home. Her ashes will be scattered in Resurrection Bay in Seward at a later date.
Gary Lyle Reed, 71, lost his life to cancer on March 18, 2014, at home in Wasilla surrounded by the people he loved. A potluck celebration of life will take place at the American Legion #35 in Wasilla at 2 p.m. April 26.
Marilyn L. Ross, 75, passed away at Providence Hospital on March 5, 2014, from a stroke she suffered a few days earlier. Her husband and two daughters were by her side.
Longtime Anchorage resident, Mary Elizabeth (Owen) Carle, 95, died March 19, 2014, with family present at the Providence Alaska Medical Center in Anchorage.
Eagle River resident David Morrison McGill, 53, passed away at home on March 25, 2014, due to complications from cancer. Graveside services of David’s ashes were held on March 27 at the Fort Richardson National Cemetery at JBER with Military Honors.
Jeff Bayless, 51, a senior captain with the Anchorage Fire Department and a fourth generation Alaskan, died March 7, 2014, after collapsing during a training exercise. A viewing and visitation was March 14 at Evergreen Memorial Chapel. A Remembrance Service took place March 15 at the Egan Center in downtown Anchorage. Pastor Paul Steiner of Tree of Life Church in Palmer officiated. The service was preceded by a Fire Department Funeral Procession. A second service was at the Glennallen Chapel on March 16. His body was laid to rest on Mission Hill in Glennallen, in sight of his old stomping grounds.
