Follow Your Dream

Published:

Several years ago, we as lions were challenged to Meet Friends in Hamburg, Germany for the 96th Annual International Lions Convention. That is just what 15 local lions along with 30,000+ lions from all over the world did.

Having just returned from Europe, lions across our area are inspired to bring International President Barry Palmer’s message to you, Follow Your Dream. My dream was to attend an International Convention so I could meet new people from other countries to find out how they service their communities. It was an experience that will not long be forgotten as many new friends were made.

Another challenge is to make our clubs stronger by the Just Ask campaign — ask a friend, or a colleague to join your lion’s club and find out how you and your friends can make a difference in your community.

Lions meet the needs of local communities and the world. Our 1.36 million members — who perform community service in 207 countries and geographic areas — are different in many ways, but share a core belief: community is what we make it. Service to our community is not just a dream — it is our identity.

When you join Lions, you join a global service network. So, at the same time you are doing local community service, you can also contribute to Lions volunteer efforts around the world. Service can be picking up trash along the roadway, plant a tree, read a book to a child, bring fresh water to a community, or building houses in another country destroyed by nature. No act is too little or too big for Lions to achieve.

Join International President Barry Palmer and Lions everywhere in fulfilling the dream of stronger clubs, stronger communities and stronger Lions. Contact me at 242-1129 about becoming a Lion as we have three local clubs, Chugiak Lions, Eagle River Lions and Sleeping Lady Mountain Lions that I am sure will make you be inspired to serve. If you have a child in high school we also have the Bear Mountain Leos for 13-18 year olds.
