Kai Fugere, 18, of Chugiak earned the rank of Eagle Scout on November 13, 2012. For Kai’s Eagle project he built benches for Hilltop’s Ski Area.

Kai began his scouting career as a Tiger Cub with Pack 551 in Lilburn, Ga. and finished Cub Scouting with Pack 551 by earning his Arrow of Light award. Kai joined Troop 231 in Lawrenceville, Ga., then in 2010 moved to Alaska and joined Troop 300. Kai has served as Senior Patrol Leader, Patrol Leader, Chaplain, Quartermaster, Librarian and more.

Kai has earned 38 merit badges, two 50 miler, the mile swim and record holder of the mile swim at Lost Lake. Kai’s scouting travels have taken him to Swan Lake Canoe Trail, National Jamboree in Washington, D.C., canoeing over 500 miles on the Yukon River, and many others.

Outside of scouting, Kai’s other interests include having played football, baseball and diving for Chugiak High School. He was selected to 1st team All-State baseball, and was class speaker for Chugiak’s 2013 graduating class. Kai graduated in May and will attend Mayville State University in the fall.

Kai is the son of Joe and Mari Fugere and brother of Eagle Scout Shawn Fugere, boy scout Riley Fugere and sister Leilani Fugere.

Everyone is invited to Kai’s Eagle Ceremony on Tuesday, Aug. 6, at 7 p.m. at Camp Gorsuch Boy Scout Camp on Mirror Lake.

 

Shawn Fugere, 16, of Chugiak earned the rank of Eagle Scout on December 20, 2012. His Eagle Ceremony was on May 2, 2013. For Shawn’s Eagle project he landscaped an area, built picnic tables for the area for Lighthouse Baptist Church in Eagle River.

Shawn began his scouting career as a Tiger Cub with Pack 551 in Lilburn, Ga. and finished Cub Scouting with Pack 551 by earning his Arrow of Light award. He joined Troop 231 in Lawrenceville, Ga., then in 2010 moved to Alaska and joined Troop 300. Shawn has served as Assistant Senior Patrol Leader, Patrol Leader, Quartermaster, Librarian, to name just a few positions held.

Shawn has earned 35 merit badges, two 50 milers, the mile swim. Shawn’s scouting travels have taken him to Swan Lake Canoe Trail, National Jamboree in Washington, D.C., canoeing over 500 miles on the Yukon River twice, and many others.

Outside of scouting, Shawn’s other interests include playing soccer and diving for Chugiak High School, and speed skating. He is in the World Seminar Program at Chugiak and participates in the University of Duke’s TIP program.

Shawn is the son of Joe and Mari Fugere and brother of Eagle Scout Kai Fugere, Boy Scout Riley Fugere and sister Leilani Fugere.

 

Charley Pappas became Troop 230’s 130th Eagle Scout on April 3. Charley began his scouting career in 2002 as a Tiger Cub in Pack 607 in Tecumseh, Mich. After moving back to Alaska in 2003 he joined Cub Scout Pack 293 in Eagle River. Charley earned his Arrow of Light with Pack 293 and crossed-over into Troop 230 in 2007. He served in a number of leadership positions in the troop including Quartermaster, Patrol Leader, Assistant Senior Patrol Leader, and Junior Assistant Scoutmaster. He has earned 39 merit badges during his time in Boy Scouting. Highlights of Charley’s scouting experience include hiking Bird Ridge several times, canoeing the Kenai National Wildlife Refuge, hiking the Chilkoot Trail, hiking and bear viewing in Katmai National Park, several snowmachine trips, attending the National Jamboree in 2010, and trekking Philmont Scout Ranch in 2011. Charley’s Eagle Project improved an outside area for the Eagle River Food Pantry at the Eagle River Presbyterian Church. He will be a senior at Chugiak High School this year where he plays football for their team and enjoys playing piano in his free time. Charley is the son of Jim and Dina Pappas and brother of Troop 230 Eagle Scout Jack.
