“High school girl designs Lions flag”

From a column in the Knik Arm Courier, Aug. 1966:

Donna Crandall, a Chugiak High School senior, turned in the winning design for the flag of the newly organized Chugiak Lions Club.

The designs selected by Lions were submitted by Chugiak High School art students in a contest held recently.

Donna’s design depicted a stream with fish jumping, combined with snow capped mountains, forests, a bear, a moose, an Alaskan cache with an eagle circling overhead.

The two other designs, submitted by Rachel Moline and Dennis Tucker, were both judged to be excellent, and the judges had great difficulty in arriving at their decision.

All three of the students who entered the contest will be invited as guests of the Lions Club at their next regular dinner meeting this Thursday at Spring Creek Lodge.

Donna received an award of $10 for her entry.
