No injuries in Tuesday fire
Blaze started in home’s garage
Chugiak Volunteer Fire and Rescue firefighters work to extinguish a blaze at a home on Green Garden Drive in Chugiak Tuesday, Aug. 6, 2013. There were no injuries in the fire, which officials said caused an estimated $300,000 in damage.
No one was injured in a Chugiak house fire Tuesday, Aug. 6 that caused at least $300,000 in damages, according to the Chugiak Volunteer Fire Department.
A combined 10 units from the CVFD and the Anchorage Fire Department responded to the blaze, said incident commander Clifton Dalton with the CVFD. The fire, which was called in by a neighbor at around 7:30 a.m., was under control within about 15 minutes, he said.
Homeowners Doug and Cynthia Henie were unharmed. An Anchorage police officer, Doug Henie said he was at work when he was notified of the fire. He said his wife told him she heard a loud noise in the attached garage and found the area in flames as she exited the home.
“It was fully engulfed after that,” Henie said.
Henie said a truck, car and two snowmachines burned in the fire. The family has lived in the home since 1995.
Dalton said investigators were working to determine the cause of the blaze. He said the garage and part of the house nearest the garage were destroyed, but that crews were able to keep flames from spreading to the rest of the home.
