Albert Loop trail closed
Seasonal closure a sign of fall
The Albert Loop Trail near the Eagle River Nature Center has been closed because of increased bear traffic in the area.
The trail was closed at noon on Friday, Aug. 10.
According to a press release issued by Chugach State Parks, the trail will likely be shut down until the Eagle River begins to freeze.
Brown and black bears use the Albert Loop, its bridges and nearby beaver dams to fish for salmon, which are returning to the area in large numbers.
The closure has happened each year since 1997.
Other trails in the area, including the Dew Mound, Crow Pass, Rodak Loop and the salmon viewing platforms remain open.
