Chugiak Post 33 dropped its only two games at the American Legion Northwest Region Tournament in Oregon.

On Aug. 8, the Mustangs dropped an 8-1 decision to tournament hoset Eugene, Ore. Chugiak’s Deven Ferriss scored the team’s lone run when he walked, stole second and third and was singled home by Zach Brueggemann.

Chugiak starter Chase Wilson gave up just four earned runs in eight innings of work, striking out seven and throwing 138 total pitches. Chugiak’s defense was a big factor in the loss, with four Mustangs combining for five errors in the game.

The following day, Chugiak fell 18-1 to Hawaii in a game shortened to seven innings due to the 10-run rule. Conner Cimmiyotti, Chase Wilson, Alex Bozzo and Hunter Hanson collected base hits for the Mustangs, who finished the season with a 22-19 record and an Alaska State American Legion championship trophy.
