The Chugiak Soccer Club (CSC) ’03 Girls Flurry demonstrated incredible stamina and teamwork by winning the U12 division of the Seattle Cup Tournament, July 11-13.

The Seattle Cup Tournament hosted 13 U12 teams from Washington, Oregon, Alaska, and Canada, held at the Starfire Sports Complex, home to the Seattle Sounders training facility in Tukwila, Wash.

The win was so impressive because the U12 division in the Lower 48 has been playing 11 v (on) 11 for a full season now. Alaska’s U12 teams will not fully transition to 11 v 11 until Fall 2014.

En route to the title, the Flurry played six games in only two days, in 90-plus temperatures, including three games the final day.

The semi-final game against C.W.S.A Navy was particularly intense as the game finished in a draw then immediately went to penalty kicks when the winner wasn’t determined until both teams had used 10 athletes.

The CSC Flurry stepped up two hours later and won the final game 3-0 against Wenatchee Fire Black.

The team celebrated their victory by immediately heading to Century Link Field in downtown Seattle to watch Clint Dempsey lead the Seattle Sounders to a win over rival Portland Timbers.

The Seattle Cup victory was a highlight of their travel trip that included watching both the Seattle Sounders and the Seattle Reign and culminated in a solid showing in the Nike Crossfire Challenge held July 18 -20.
