Edna Irene Roos died of natural causes on August 13, 2012 at the Chugiak-Eagle River Senior Center, where she resided.

Edna was born in Wadena, Minn., and moved to California when she was 16. There she met and married Cloid Roos while she worked as a waitress at a drive-in. In 1959 they drove up the Alcan with three small children and started their life in Alaska.

Edna and Cloid lived in the Chugiak area for over 50 years. Cloid preceded her in death in May of 2000.

“She will be dearly missed by her family and friends, brightening the lives of those she knew with her love and strength until her passing,” her family said. “Edna loved her family and friends and often went out of her way to bake everyone her fantastic pies and cookies. She had the best flower gardens in the neighborhood, liked to bowl, and drive her Subaru around town.”

Edna was preceded in death by her parents, Theodore and Millie Pickar; sister, Helen Jensen; and brothers, Harry, Raymond, George, Albert and Elmer Pickar.

Survivors include sister, Irene Milbrandt; daughter, Linda Vrem (and husband Kelly); sons, Rocky Roos (and wife Kirsten), and Rick Roos (and wife Kathy); grandchildren, Alison Vrem (and husband Erik), Kelsey Vrem, Megan Vrem (and partner Andrew Gishen), Todd Roos (and wife Leah), Chelsey Roos, and Lindsey Winchel (and husband Rob); great-grandchildren, Ellie and Lilly Roos and Wyatt Winchel; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A Memorial of Life was held Aug. 18 at the senior center.

Funeral arrangements by Janssen’s Evergreen Memorial Chapel.
