Chugiak’s Jordan places second in Skyview XC Run Invite
Chugiak junior Ty Jordan pressed defending state champ Levi Thomet, of Kodiak, on a very challenging Tsalteshi 5K course Saturday in Soldotna.
The performance was the area’s best showing with members from both Eagle River and Chugiak varsity teams present. Eighteen schools took part in the boys’ division, 16 in the girls’, including squads from as far away as Nome and Bethel.
The meet sported six of the eight Anchorage High Schools, along with a strong showing of Valley contenders.
Team scores were tight among the two area schools with Eagle River 8th and Chugiak 9th, among girls, and Chugiak 12th and Eagle River 14th in the boys standings.
Peyton Young, of Eagle River, paced local gals, finishing 13th overall with a time of 19:37.1.
Kenai phenom Allie Ostrander clocked a time of 16:44.3 – which would have placed 15th in the boys race – demolishing the girls field and more than two minutes faster than the girls’ second-place finisher Briahna Gerlach of Glennallen.
Jordan’s time of 15:53.2 was a dozen seconds off that of Thomet. Next best among locals was Alec Smith, of Eagle River High, 27th in 17:16.5.
Eagle River girls team scoring were provided by Young, Summer Frazier, 35th (20:35.0); Emma Tvelia, 42nd (20:55.8); Nikki Boggs, 45th (21:05.1) and Tessa Heagy, 64th (21:44.9) among 108 finishers.
Scoring toward Chugiak boys team tally included Jordan, 2nd; Jack Ginter, 55th(17:59.4); Charlie Latimer, 62nd(18:11.8); Logan Hemphill, 79th (18:42.2) and Liam Baez-Terry, 103rd (19:41.4) among 117 finishers.
