Apodaca's Olympic bid falls short

Melissa Apodaca, a 2008 Chugiak High graduate who was seeking to become a member of the U.S. Olympic team, lost twice at the U.S. Olympic Trials tournament on Sunday, April 22 in Iowa City, Iowa. 

Apodaca lost to Ashley Hudson in the first round by consecutive 5-1 and 3-1 decisions in the best-of-three format match. In the consolation round, Apodaca lost to Othello Feroleto, 3-0 and 7-1.

A former Alaska Girls state champion, Apodaca trains at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo.
