Butter Drop Cookies

COOK'S CORNER


Published:

1 cup butter (or oleo)
1 cup sugar
1 egg
1 tsp vanilla
2 cups sifted flour
½ tsp baking powder
½ tsp salt

Cream:    butter & sugar
Add:     egg and vanilla
Beat:     until fluffy
Add:     sifted dry ingredients
Mix:     until smooth
Drop:     by teaspoon onto lightly greased cookie sheet

Bake at 400 degrees for 5 to 8 minutes
Yields 4 dozen cookies

VARIATIONS
Chocolate:     add 2 squares melted unsweetened chocolate before the dry ingredients
Cherry-Coconut:    add 1 cup flaked coconut to butter
Top each cookie with candied cherry before baking
Pecan:     add ½ cup finely chopped pecans to butter
Walnuts may be substituted

This recipe was submitted by Dorothy Jonrowe to the Knik Arm Courier in November of 1960. It is a good one to use for Christmas baking.
