Junior musher edges rivals for hard-fought victory

Alea Robinson narrowly edged Tilly Cantor and Joey Dombroski in the 7-dog, 5-mile junior points race at the Chugiak Dog Mushers Association’s third points races of the season on Saturday, Dec. 17 at the CDMA Beach Lake Trails.

Robinson’s team crossed the finish line in 26 minutes, 1 second to beat Cantor by 28 seconds. Dombroski was just eight seconds behind Cantor.

The three mushers have now each won a race in the 7-dog class.

Senior points races scheduled for Dec. 18 were cancelled due to rain and windy conditions.

In other junior races held on Dec. 17, Keegan Berrigan won the 1-dog, ¼-mile race; Zach Maruskie won the 2-dog, 2-miler; Kenzie Barnhart won the 3-dog, 4-miler; and Andy Noble won the 5-dog, 4-mile race.

A junior/senior night race has tentatively been scheduled for Dec. 28 at the CDMA’s trail system.
