Bowlers wrap 2011-12 season

Wolves girls second, boys third; Chugiak girls jump South for sixth

Eagle River’s girls bowling team finished the prep season in second place in the Anchorage Scholastic Bowling League, while the Wolves’ boys wound up tied for second but finished third on the tiebreaker.

The final standings were determined by placing round matches held Feb. 2 at Center Bowl in Anchorage. In that round, the No. 1 and No. 2 teams squared off against each other, as did the No. 3 and No. 4, No. 5 and No. 6 and No. 7 and No. 8 squads.

On the girls side, No. 1 Dimond held off the Wolves 27-3 in the 1-vs-2 match. Eagle River’s Amanda Nowicki rolled the top individual game for the Wolves with a 231.

The Eagle River boys fell 22-8 to Dimond. Josh Bogowith paced the Wolves with a season-high 276 in individual play. Although the Wolves finished tied with East in the standings, the T-Birds won the tie-breaker on total pins.

Chugiak’s girls team earned a big win over Service, crushing the Cougars 24.5-5.5 to leapfrog South into sixth place for the season. Mariah Schiefer bowled a 192 to pace the Mustangs in individual play.

The Chugiak boys finished the season in eighth place after falling 22-8 to West. Robert Chamberlain had a 163 for the Mustangs’ top individual score.
