Chugiak senior Garrett Morrison pinned Kodiak’s Charlie Johnson with nine seconds left in the second period of their 182-pound championship match at the Colony Invitational wrestling tournament on Jan. 6 to claim the only individual title for a Chugiak or Eagle River wrestler at the 16-team tourney.

Morrison’s victory helped the Mustangs to a 10th place finish. Eagle River was 12th.

Chugiak’s Alex Medeiros (195 pounds) also made the finals, but had to settle for second after dropping a narrow 7-6 decision to West’s Austine Gonzalez.

Robert Huffer placed fifth for Chugiak.

Other top performances were turned in by Jake Wenzl (132) and Richard Burroughs (220), who each won their respective consolation brackets.

Logan Sheets was Eagle River’s top performer with a third-place showing at 170 pounds and Ed Hall finished fourth in his season debut at 182 pounds. Zach Luff also earned placing points by finishing sixth at 120 pounds for the Wolves.
