Several local families road-tripped to Homer over the weekend to pick up some valuable Besh Cup Nordic ski race series points.

Alaska Nordic Racing’s Lammers siblings — Isaac and Sarissa — solidified their No. 2 rankings in their respective age groups. Isaac finished sixth among J1/OJ/senior racers in both Besh Cup No. 3 (classic sprint) on Jan. 21 and the Besh Cup No. 4 (interval freestyle) on Jan. 22 at Lookout Mountain. The finishes helped Lammers remain in second place among J1 racers in the series.

Sarissa Lammers was third in the classic sprint race among J2 girls and 15th in the freestyle among all competitors. Through four races, she’s ranked No. 2 in the J2 girls category.

Besh Cup standings are used to select Alaska’s Junior Olympic and Arctic Winter Games teams.

A pair of 2011 Chugiak High grads also had a good weekend in Homer, as APU’s Kinsey Loan was sixth in the classic race and ninth in freestyle while Krysti McPhetres (ANR/UAF) was eighth in both races. Loan is currently ranked second among OJ girls and McPhetres is fifth.

Kinsey’s younger brother, Alex, was 19th in the classic among J1 and older men and ninth in the freestyle to move into fourth place among J1 male skiers in the series. David McPhetres, who was 35th in the classic and 15th in the free, is currently No. 8 in the J1 male standings.

Other locals to have a strong weekend were Eagle River’s mother/daughter duo of Hannah and Sheryl Stevens. Skiing for ANR, Hannah was 22nd in the classic race and 16th in the free to move into 11th place overall among J1 girls. Her mom, Sheryl, finished first in her age group in the classic race and second in the freestyle to hang onto the No. 1 spot among M3/M4 women.

Former Chugiak High skiers Kenny and Peter Brewer (ANR) each earned top-10 finishes in individual races. Peter was eighth overall in the classic sprint and Kenny followed with an eighth-place finish in the freestyle race.

Among younger skiers, Chugiak eighth-grader Roan Hall (ANR) finished third among J3 boys in the classic race and 7th in the freestyle to move into third in the J3 boys standings.
