The year ahead
Well we’ve made it through another New Year’s Eve; the spectacular fireworks (some legal, others not so much), the holiday parties, and the beginning of resolution season. Many will resolve to lose weight, save more, spend less, spend more time with the family, and others will strive to be more active in helping others. Whether your resolution is to spend less money, spend more time with the family, or to help others, there are a number of places you can do all at the same time! Think about attending some of the many community events hosted by the Lions or the Chugiak-Eagle River Chamber of Commerce.
Throughout the year we will be updating you on the events hosted by the Lions and other groups in our community. These events will range from an ice fishing derby, to a Valentine’s dinner, a Candidates Forum, a community Easter Egg Hunt, the always-popular Independence Day celebration on July 3, as well as numerous other events. The best part of these events is everyone is welcome to come and participate or lend a helping.
How do you volunteer? All you have to do is show up. Sometimes, volunteering is as simple as helping to set up or clean up. Others find the fun in volunteering is interacting with the community, by helping serve a meal, cleaning up the park, or painting faces at Independence Day celebration. Whatever your preference, we can always use a hand, and there is no commitment required. The Lions have a number of familiar faces that show up project after project just to help. We appreciate the help, as we’ve said before we can accomplish so much more together than we can on our own.
So, as we look forward to 2012 we face an action packed year with so many opportunities to get involved in the community, so many opportunities to make our community better, and even more opportunities to really make a difference in someone’s life. The funny thing about volunteering is sometimes the life you change the most is your own.
