Eagle River girls, Chugiak boys fall to Lynx in opening round of CIC tourney

Dimond ended both the Eagle River girls and Chugiak boys basketball seasons in the opening round of the Cook Inlet Conference tournament Wednesday, Feb. 29 at West.

The Lynx cruised to an 89-15 victory in the girls’ game and beat Chugiak’s boys 51-34.

Lauren Frost paced Eagle River with eight points.

In the boys’ game, a 3-pointer at the buzzer gave Dimond a six-point lead heading into the final quarter.

Chugiak had kept the game close through 24 minutes, but managed just two points the entire fourth quarter. A Marquis Spearman free throw broke more than six scoreless minutes for the Mustangs in the final quarter.

Matt Oldenkamp led the way for Chugiak with nine points.

Chugiak’s girls face Bartlett on Thursday, March 1 at 4 p.m. Eagle River’s boys follow at 6 p.m. against West.
