Area swimmers succeed in Juneau

CAC’s Powers, Knik’s Burke win individual titles

Dozens of local swimmers made a splash in Juneau Feb. 24-26 for the Alaska Age Group Swimming Championships.

Knik Aquatics and the Chugiak Aquatics Club each sent teams to Juneau, and both teams had several standout performances.

Overall, Knik placed fourth with 599.5 team points, while Chugiak was eighth with 211 points.

Chugiak’s Izzy Powers won seven individual events to claim the overall girls 10-and-under championship, while Knik’s Sammy Burke won six individual events to claim the overall victory in the 14-year-old girls division.

Other podium finishers included Knik’s Bryce Fox-Icarro (2nd, 13 boys), Blaise Fox-Icarro (2nd, 14 boys), Pearl Jarupakorn (3rd, 11 girls), Cheyenne Burke (3rd, 12 girls) and Emmie Jennings (3rd, 14 girls).

Knik also won the team award for most points per swimmer at the event.
