Local nonprofits offer scholarships

LION'S CORNER

Well, school is coming to end for another year. Local seniors are planning their futures and so are students in college.

“Where are we going to find money to help pay our tuition?”

“How will we buy books next year?”

“What college will accept me in their programs?”

The local non-profits may be able help. Now is the time for parents and students and continuing education students to be finishing their portfolios and turning in their applications. The local area has as many schools as it does non profit organizations.

The Sleeping Lady Mountain Lions have been giving scholarships out for the past 21 or more years, even when they were Lioness’ involved with the Eagle River Lions Club. To date, they have contributed $307,500 to local students. That doesn’t even include this year. Some other organizations that give scholarships locally are: Elks Lodge, VFW, Eagles, Chugiak Lions, Eagle River Lions, American Legion, ROTC, Women in Business and many more.

Students, check with your counselors if you attend Eagle River High School, Chugiak High School or any Christian or home school program. They can help you prepare your information to turn into the local scholarship committees. Don’t wait, time is running out and graduation is right around the corner.
