Sorensen, Kveseth notch victories

Eagle River’s Mondl finishes second in 3,200

Chugiak’s Tim Sorensen won the boys’ 3,200-meter run in 10 minutes, 30 seconds at “The Mini” — the season’s first official meet — March 23-24 at The Dome. Sorensen also placed second in the 1,600, finishing just 0.16 seconds behind Max Romey of Service.

Chugiak’s Chris Kveseth won the 800 in 2:07, and Jacob Brownlee placed sixth in the discus.

Eagle River’s boys 4x400 relay of Richard Ayala, Kit Hoog, Ben Hall and Brandon King placed third.

Chugiak finished sixth as a team with 31 points and Eagle River was ninth with six. West won the team title with 80 points.

On the girls’ side, Eagle River’s Kate Mondl placed second in the 3,200 in 11:40, six and a half seconds behind Dimond’s Sarah Freistone. Mondl also took fifth in the 1,600.

Chugiak’s Malia McVee was fourth in the discus. Savannah Nelson took second in the triple jump for the Mustangs behind Service’s Dajanae Harris.

Eagle River’s Nikki Boggs and Scout Warners were fifth and sixth, respectively, in the triple jump.

Eagle River finished seventh as a team with 23 points and Chugiak was ninth with 14. Wasilla won the meet with 89 points.

The Anchorage School District 8x8 meet will be held Friday, March 30 from 3:30 to 6 p.m. and Saturday, March 31 from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.
