Stoltze gives props to CHS
I am writing today to congratulate the 2011 Chugiak High School Varsity Football Team upon being presented with the First Annual Trajan Langdon Award by the Alaska Sports Hall of Fame Tuesday, Feb. 28 during a ceremony held at the Anchorage Museum.
The award, presented by the Hall of Fame Board of Directors, is presented to a person or group of people who have demonstrated leadership and sportsmanship during the past year in such a way as to positively influence and inspire others to be better sportsmen or sportswomen.
As a Chugiak High alumnus and longtime sports fan (my uncle, Frank Mielke, was the first four-year letterman at Chugiak), I couldn’t be prouder of a group of young men who have worn the black and blue Mustang uniform.
The accomplishments, courage and sportsmanship the 2011 Mustang football team displayed off the field in the face of diversity and a hard life lesson exceed anything they achieved on the field. I believe years from now when the members of the team look back on the 2011 season it will be a badge of honor that means more than any victory.
Although I could not attend the award presentation, I received updates of the ceremony on my cell phone.
The first annual award going to the football team makes me proud to be a Mustang. Being recognized for how they dealt with a difficult situation in such a positive manner is a tribute to each young man on the team, the coaches and staff at Chugiak High School, their families and the Chugiak community.
Way to go Mustangs!
