Mary L. Willis, a former resident of Montesano, Washington who had resided in Eagle River, Alaska with her family for the last two years, passed away peacefully at the Elmendorf Hospital Monday, Oct. 31, 2011.

Mrs. Willis was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Raymond A. Willis, a retired Navy veteran who died in 2002. Mrs. Willis was 92 years old at the time of her death. She was born in North Chicago, Illinois on September 7, 1919. She was a longtime member of St. John’s Catholic Church in Montesano.

Following the death of her husband, Mrs. Willis continued to live in the family home in Montesano, enjoying the company of her neighbors and the frequent visits from her family members. She enjoyed playing bridge, reading mystery novels and taking care of her pet dog. In 2009 she and her dog came to live with her family in Alaska.

Mary was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She is survived by her son Lynn Willis of Eagle River and daughter Susan Southworth of Kona, Hawaii; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Mary will be interred with her husband in Montesano. A memorial service in Montesano will be held at a future date. The family would like to thank the staff of the Elmendorf Hospital for their care and compassion during Mary’s final days.
