17 Mustangs headed to state swim meet

A total of 16 Chugiak High and two Eagle River High swimmers qualified for state. Chugiak’s Kaitlin Friedli was the lone local diver to qualify for state. With a score of 354.30 in the Cook Inlet Conference meet, Friedli enters state as the top diver.

Bartlett will host the state meet. Swimming preliminaries begin Friday, Nov. 4 at 1 p.m. Girls diving preliminaries start at 3:30 p.m. followed by boys diving.

Girls diving semifinals start at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 5 followed by the boys. Swimming and diving finals start at 1 p.m.

Here’s a look at the local state-qualifying swimmers:

Chugiak High girls:

200 medley relay (Phylicia Don, Amy Hartke, Brianna Mike, Amanda Vikdal, Burke, Erin Cockerham, Maegan Lange and Cierra Holtman); 200 free relay (Vikdal, Hotlman, Hartke, Burke, Cockerham, Don, Lange and Mike); 200 IM: Hartke (alternate); 100 free: Burke, Holtman; 100 back: Burke; 100 breast: Cockerham.

Eagle River High girls:

200 free: Kate Mondl (alternate); 500 free: Mondl.

Chugiak High boys:

200 medley relay (Andrew Espe, Ethan Espe, Grant Ensign, Derek Cluff, Jonah Hennings-Booth, Mitchell Wilder, Luke Aschenbrenner and Nathan Jordan); 200 free: Ensign; 100 fly: Hennings-Booth, Ethan Espe; 100 free: Andrew Espe; 500 free: Ensign; 100 back: Andrew Espe; 100 breast: Cluff (alternate).

Eagle River High boys:

200 IM: Blaise Fox-Icarro; 500 free: Fox-Icarro.
