"Boating Skills and Seamanship," a 13-lesson course for recreational boaters, begins Tuesday, April 9, at the UAA Eagle River campus, 10928 Eagle River Rd.
The class is offered by Flotilla 3-3, United States Coast Guard Auxiliary. Classes will run from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday nights through May 2. UAA will grant l.6 CEUs to educators who complete the course.
Subjects covered in the course will include small boat handling, trailering, legal requirements, marine radio procedures, navigation rules, piloting, weather considerations and knots. The cost is $60, which includes the text and workbook. Course plotting instruments (parallel rules and dividers) are not included, but will be needed for an exercise during the course.
