“Christmas celebration is hailed big success”
From the Knik Arm Courier the following week:
The Old Fashioned Community Christmas celebration was a huge success judging by the crowd that showed up at the Eagle River Shopping Center last Thursday afternoon.
A count showed that 2,700 cups were used, and the estimated number of those who attended at around 2,500.
The fact that more hot chocolate was consumed than coffee tends to indicate that more children than adults were present.
Highlights of the afternoon was the parade by Frontier Riders, accompanied by Santa in his sleigh; music by the Chugiak High School band, and community singing of Christmas carols.
Plans are to make this an annual event. Mr. Glenn Briggs has purchased the lights for the giant community Christmas tree, and residents of the Great Chugiak area can look forward to the tree gracing the Shopping Center parking lot next year.
One of the suggestions toward improving the annual event is to have a formal tree lighting ceremony mark the beginning of the week-long celebration.
