ER Shopping Center stays busy
From The Eagle, a weekly newspaper published by Shirl Mauldin, Jan. 18, 1963 edition:
Tomorrow, Saturday the 19th, the March of Dimes bake sale will be held in the empty store space at the Eagle River Shopping Center beginning at 10 a.m. Individuals and social/service organizations are asked to contribute home-baked pastries for the sale. It will be greatly appreciated and all proceeds will be added to the March of Dimes funds collected during the current drive in our community.
The Chugiak Teen Club is pitching in with plans to sponsor the March of Dimes teen dance scheduled for next Friday night, January 25. The dance will be held from 8 p.m. until midnight in the empty store space at the Eagle River Shopping Center, and teen club rules and regulations will apply. Club members Twana and Sue Carter, Janie Short, Sandra and Bethy Brasher and Skip Cheely are planning to decorate the large room on Thursday, Jan. 24 at 7 p.m. Mr. and Mrs. Bob Thomas, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Cheely will also assist in getting the place “all fixed up.”
Several parents have agreed to chaperone the dance. Refreshments will be available to keep the dancers going and the local “M.J.B.’s” are donating their talent for the fun and cause. Musicians Mike Flint, Danny Walker and Jerry Hilmar will provide the live music during the four-hour dance.
