Bingo At The Chugiak-Eagle River Senior Center

Published:

One of my favorite community activities is playing bingo with our local seniors. Spending time with the residents of the Chugiak-Eagle River Senior Center is heartwarming. Every second Monday at 1:30 p.m., you will find the Sleeping Lady Mountain Lions playing bingo with the seniors.

The center has provided programs and services to seniors living in the area for more than 35 years. Starting out in a small community building, today the facility is over 100,000 square feet. They currently have 83 housing units, which include 20 assisted living apartments, 20 HUD low-income senior apartments and 43 independent living senior apartments. In addition to housing, they offer low cost transportation, Meals-on-Wheels, a nutrition program and an adult day services program. The center also provides a place for seniors to meet, socialize and enjoy a healthy, active lifestyle. They provide facilities for community groups as well as catering services.

The Sleeping Lady Mountain Lions join the seniors each month for a fun time of playing bingo, providing snacks and socializing. The Lions share the duties each month of developing a theme and purchasing door prizes to the seniors’ delight. The themes might be fishing for gold fish, 4th of July, Christmas, Thanksgiving, etc. We play 10 games, with the winner of each game receiving a monetary prize. All the seniors present receive door prizes. It is two hours of laughing and socializing each month while assisting the seniors with their games and enjoying time with some wonderful people. Please join us and visit with the seniors every 2nd Monday of each month.
