Fulfillment of Prophesies: Old Testament and Today’s Christians

Published:

I have studied the Old Testament multiple times and I have struggled how it applies to our lives today. I finally came to the realization that it has a tremendous significance for us even today. The Old Testament predicts the coming of Jesus, the salvation he brought to all of us and, also, the sacrifice he made to die for our sins.

I opened the book of Isaiah and started to read prophesies of the coming of Jesus 720 years before the birth of our Christ. Isaiah 9:6-7 (kjv) was written in 712 BC: “For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder: Isaiah continues and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counselor, The Mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. Of the increase of His government and peace there shall be no end. Upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even forever...”

Before Christ was born, God had made a covenant with the Jews. The Jews had been his chosen people and God had given them the Mosaic Law. Salvation was only available for the Jews. The birth of Christ changed this; now salvation was available for all. The only things you needed were to believe, to repent for your sins, and then you are given an opportunity to become followers of Jesus. Also, most amazingly, we do not need to wait for the coming of Jesus; he came and changed the world and made a new covenant with all the believers. Salvation became available for everyone by faith. The Old Testament has over 300 prophesies of the coming of Jesus!

Isaiah 7:14 continues: “Therefore the Lord Himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a Son, and shall call his name Immanuel (God with us).”

This is the true meaning of Christmas; prophesies written centuries earlier were fulfilled and God sent his only son to us and made him human. Jesus came to this world bringing salvation to everyone and he sacrificed himself for our sins.

John 3:16: “For God so loved the world, that he gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.:

Will you also receive his gift? Just believe, have faith, confess your sins, and the everlasting life is also yours.
