Mirror Lake Middle School is presenting Disney’s “Little Mermaid Jr.” on Friday, Feb. 22.

The familiar plot of the production, which is a condensed version of the animated movie, appealed to director Margaret Barber.

“When I was in high school, it was popular,” she said. “Everyone used to sing it.”

With 46 cast members, Barber and her crew have been busy preparing for the play. Despite all the effort required, it’s worth it to see the excitement on the students’ faces, Barber said.

“It’s something the kids will remember forever,” she said.

It also gives Mirror Lake’s actors a chance to showcase their talents, Barber said.

“It’s a neat opportunity for some kids to shine,” she said.

The audience can expect a great night of entertainment, Barber said.

“It’s going to be a fun-filled evening they’ll never forget,” she said.

The show is full of all the recognizable characters — Ariel, Sebastian, Flounder, Ursula — and of course, all the memorable songs, too.

“Small children will probably get a kick out of it,” Barber said. “They’ll be singing the songs all weekend.”

Doors open at 6:30 p.m. with the play starting at 7. Tickets are $5 for adults, $3 for students and children 10 and younger are free.
