Teen caught with marijuana at Eagle River High

An Eagle River High student was released to his parents after a staff member smelled marijuana on him Dec. 18, 2013, according to Anchorage Police spokesperson Anita Shell. A search revealed the student had marijuana inside of a bubblegum container, a pipe and Clear Eyes eye drops, she said.

 

Local coffee shop burglarized

A burglar stole a small amount of money, a safe and a laptop from Blondies Espresso in Eagle River in the early morning hours on Dec. 19, 2013, Shell said. No arrests have been made.

 

Checkbook stolen from Chugiak mailbox

Someone stole a checkbook from a Chugiak mailbox and has written a total of $1,750 worth of checks to them self, Shell said. A resident of Judd Drive called APD on Dec. 19, 2013, to report the theft. So far, four checks — for $500, $450 and two for $400 — have been written from the stolen checkbook, she said. The investigation is ongong, Shell said.

 

Disabled vehicle leads to DUI arrest

Chugiak’s Robert Ball, 47, was charged with driving under the influence after police noticed impairment after responding when his vehicle was stuck in a ditch on South Birchwood Loop on Dec. 22, 2013. Ball provided a breath sample of .130, Shell said. The legal limit is .08.

Ball was also charged with driving while license suspended and driving without insurance, Shell said. He was taken to Anchorage Jail.

 

Charges are merely accusations; defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
