Two Wolves reach Colony finals

Eagle River’s Cory Florence defeated Wasilla’s Blake Marks 4-2 in the finals of the 145-pound weight class at the Colony Invitational on Saturday, Jan. 5 in Palmer.

Florence’s victory was the lone victory for Eagle River, which had four placewinners in the tourney.

Also making the finals was Xavier Horton, who was pinned by Service’s Tyler Thammavongsa in the third period of their title match at 152 pounds.

Gavin Arnold (132 pounds) finished third for the Wolves after pinning Wasilla’s Chris Campbell in the consolation finals.

Also placing for the Wolves was Jimmy Stemper, who was sixth at 160 pounds.

Chugiak returned to action Jan. 8, falling 37-24 to East. Chase Jury, Colt Jury, Robert Huffer, Karson Forbush, Toren Cheely and Tyler Wintersteen picked up wins for CHS.

Eagle River will be in action today at South for a quad meet beginning at 6 p.m.

Chugiak and Eagle River will square off in the final dual meet of the season Jan. 16 at Eagle River at 6 p.m.
