“A few words from MTA”
In the early part of 1963, when Chugiak residents were all on party lines, Matanuska Telephone Association ran a weekly ¼ page notice in the Knik Arm Courier, addressing the problems subscribers might be having with their telephone service. The following is one that was printed in April 1963:
Party Line Problems No. 3: The Impatient Phoner
This person will usually pick up the phone and start dialing without ever checking to see if the line is in use.
When he discovers someone on the line he will pick up the phone every few seconds to see if they are finished, and click the receiver impatiently to let them know he is there.
Usually the others will give up and relinquish the line to him, but some will stubbornly drag out their conversation to the end of their allotted time out of sheer annoyance.
DO YOU HAVE AN IMPATIENT PHONER ON YOUR PARTY LINE?
