Soldotna skiers sweep Chugiak Classic

Eagle River bowling rolls past Mustangs

Soldotna’s Levi Michael and Sadie Fox earned victories at the Chugiak Classic held at the Beach Lake Trails on Saturday, Jan. 11.

In the boys race, Michael finished in 27 minutes, 37.5 seconds — beating Grace Christian’s Luke McLaughlin by 10.5 seconds.

Fox (25:13.5) edged Morgan Flynn, of East, by eight-tenths of a second to win the girls race.

Chugiak sophomore Roan Hall led all locals with a 13th-place finish. Alec Smith placed 33rd to lead all Eagle River boys.

Chugiak’s Hannah Booher was 18th to lead all local girls.

 

Wrestling

3 Wolves win titles

Eagle River had three champions crowned at the Robin Hervey tournament in Kodiak on Saturday, Jan. 11.

Marcus Amico (132 pounds), Gavin Arnold (138) and Xavier Horton (170) each finished first in their weight classes. Hayden Riebe (145) and Justin Vanderlooven (160) each finished second for the Wolves. Preston Goss (152) and Ed Hall (195) placed third — giving Eagle River seven grapplers who cracked the top three.

Tournament-host Kodiak won the team title with 197 points.

 

Huffer, Nelson lead Chugiak

Robert Huffer (152) and Jesse Nelson (182) led Chugiak with second-place finishes at the John Tobin Invitational at North Pole on Saturday, Jan. 11. Toren Cheely (182) also cracked the top three with a third-place finish for the Mustangs.

South easily won the team title with 234 points.

 

Bowling

Eagle River sweeps Chugiak

Eagle River swept Chugiak in Anchorage Scholastic Bowling League play Jan. 9 at Jewel Lake Bowl. The Wolves earned 22-13 victories in both the boys and girls matches.

Bobby Leibbrand rolled a high game 236 for Eagle River while Robert Burton’s 230 led the Mustangs. On the girls side, Shannon Jones rolled a high game 192 for the Wolves.
