CHS girls still on top in prep bowling
Chugiak’s girls bowling team held onto the top spot in the Anchorage Scholastic Bowling League with a 29-6 win over South on Jan. 17 at Jewel Lake Bowl. With two weeks of play remaining in the season, the Mustangs lead Dimond by 11 points in the standings. The Lynx picked up four points on Chugiak with a 33-2 thrashing of West.
Chugiak’s Mariah Schiefer was the team’s top bowler against the Wolverines, racking up 2,107 pins in 12 games bowled for a 175 average. Ally Weitz and Josselynn Curry each carried a 154 average for the Mustangs.
The Eagle River girls remain in third place, 31 points behind Chugiak. The Wolves defeated East 20-15 at Jewel Lake. Carly Meacham led the way for Eagle River with a 176 average, followed by Shannon Jones (169), Mykela Carroll (158) and Erin Dutton (134).
The Chugiak boys picked up a win Jan. 17, downing South 24-11. Stephen Wehr led Chugiak with a 180 average over 12 games, Robert Burton had a 172 average and Matt Remer averaged 170. Heading into the final two matches of the season, Chugiak trails second-place East by 20.5 points. Dimond is in first place, 28 points clear of the Thunderbirds.
Eagle River dropped to fifth place with a 35-0 loss to East. Josh Bogowith led the Wolves with a 187 average and Bobby Leibbrand averaged 182.
Chugiak and Eagle River will face off today (Jan. 24) at Center Bowl in Anchorage in Week 7 of the prep bowling season. Matches begin at 3 p.m.
