Man crashes JBER gate
Arrest made in Eagle River
A man driving a pick-up truck entered Joint Base Elmendorf Richardson in the early morning hours of Saturday, Jan. 19, led security officers on a 10-minute chase, then escaped by leaving base through the same gate he entered.
A Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson official said Monday that Anchorage Police arrested a “person of interest” in the incident at around 7:15 p.m. Saturday night in Eagle River on unrelated charges. The pick-up truck was located in Anchroage at around 11:50 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 19.
The chase began to unfold at around midnight, when the suspect illegally entered through the Boniface gage, according to a statement issued by JBER public affairs director Maj. Joseph Coslett.
Coslett said the suspect was a white male driving a blue 1994 GMC Sierra. No information was released about the person of interest arrested Saturday night. Anyone with information about the case is asked to call the JBER Law Enforcement desk at (907) 552-3421 or Anchorage Police at (907) 786-8900.
Security forces tried to stop the vehicle using a variety of measures, Coslett said, including firing “several” 9 mm rounds at the truck. But the driver managed to avoid those measures, leaving base through the Boniface gate and going back into Anchorage.
