Chugiak 10, East 2

Zachary Krajnik scored a hat trick to help Chugiak cruise past East 10-2 in Cook Inlet Conference hockey action Tuesday, Jan. 21 at the McDonald Center.

Sam Hanson added a pair of goals for the Mustangs, who scored short handed three times. One of Hanson’s was a shortie, as were goals by John Hammer and William Casey. Chugiak also got goals from Taylor Garner, Joseph Brazfield and Adam Groendyke.

 

Colony 4, Eagle River 2

Visiting Colony earned a 4-2, nonconference win over Eagle River on Tuesday, Jan. 21 at the Mac. Schuyler Davis scored both goals for the Wolves.

Eagle River netminder Jeffrey Hartmann made 24 saves.

 

West 5, Eagle River 1

Wyatt Beebe scored Eagle River’s lone goal in a 5-1 loss to West on Saturday, Jan. 18 at the Mac.

 

Service 4, Eagle River 3

Mike Stephens lifted Service to a 4-3 win over Eagle River by scoring with less than five minutes left in regulation Friday, Jan. 17 at the Mac. Jesse Johnson, Kyle Johnson and Davis netted goals for the Wolves.

 

Dimond 10, Chugiak 3

Groendyke, Sam Hanson and John Hammer scored goals for Chugiak, which fell 10-3 to Dimond on Friday, Jan. 17 at Ben Boeke Ice Arena in Anchorage.

 

Wrestling

Arnold wins Vandergaw title

Eagle River High’s Gavin Arnold took first at 138 pounds at the Glenn Vandergaw Invitational on Friday and Saturday, Jan. 17-18 at Dimond High.

In the title match, Arnold blanked Colony’s Robert Haan 7-0.

Xavier Horton (170) and Ed Hall (195) finished second for the Wolves. Wasilla’s Chance Boatman pinned Horton in 4:00 while Hall was pinned by Palmer’s Caleb Deemer in 5:20.

Robert Huffer (152) led Chugiak with a second-place finish. Colony’s Wade Booth took the title via forfeit.

Richard Burroughs (220) placed third for the Mustangs. He pinned Kenai Central’s Zach Koziczkowski in 2:12.

Colony won the team title with 125.5 points. Eagle River (65) was 10th and Chugiak (52.5) finished in 12th place.

 

Bartlett 41, Chugiak 35

Three forfeits helped Bartlett edge Chugiak 41-35 in a Jan. 15 dual. Dallas Mayhew (106), Jesse Nelson (182), Toren Cheely (195) and Blake Johnston (220) all won via pin for the Mustangs.

 

Service 43, Eagle River 25

Horton (182) and Michael Prado (152) earned pinfall victories for Eagle River in a 43-25 loss in a dual against Service on Jan. 15.
