“It’s a Jungle Out There” found Sleeping Lady Mountain Lions Club roaring in to Sponsor the Bear Paw Pageant in conjunction with the Chugiak-Eagle River Chamber of Commerce for the 7th year in a row.

This year’s pageant had eight girls and eight boys competing for the titles of Miss Bear Paw 2012 and Bear Paw King 2012. Contestants were students enrolled in private and public Anchorage School District schools located in the Chugiak-Eagle River area.

Contestants competing in front of a packed auditorium were judged on personal interviews, on-stage interviews, congeniality, Alaska costume competition, evening wear competition, community service and on -tage performance.

Scholarships presented to the winners of the competition by the Sleeping Lady Mountain Lions were:

— $1000 scholarship to Wendy Martin, winner of the Miss Bear Paw 2012 title;

— $500 scholarship to Wendy Martin, winner of the Outstanding Community Service award for a female contestant;

— $1,000 scholarship presented to Taylor Andrews, winner of the Mr. Bear Paw title;

— $500 scholarship to Ted Walters, winner of the Outstanding Community Service Award for a male contestant.

The Sleeping Lady Mountain Lions wish to thank and congratulate all of the youth who competed in the 2012 pageant. These youth are the future leadership of our communities.

Also, MANY THANKS to those who support the Sleeping Lady Mountain Lions Club fund raisers, which make these scholarships possible.
