Eagle River’s Francis Green, 82, died May 26, 2012, of natural causes at his home, surrounded by close friends. He had been a resident of Eagle River for more than 30 years.

Mr. Green was born on June 23, 1929 in Farnsworth, England. He started working on the railroads at the age of 12. He went on to join the Royal Marines from 1946-49.

Mr. Green graduated with an electrical and mechanical engineering degree from the Worsley Technical College in England.

In 1959, he married his wife of 44 years, Margaret Green. They moved to the United States in 1965 and initially settled in Vancouver, Wash.

He moved to Alaska in 1981 and settled in Eagle River. He worked in the engineering field designing many buildings in Alaska.

His family and friends said, “Frank was an intellect who was passionate about opera music and will be remembered as a very patient, kind and generous man deeply committed to the Catholic Church.”

He was preceded in death by his wife.

A Catholic mass was held for him on May 29, 2012 at St. Andrew Parish by father Tom Brundage.

Memorials can be given to the charities of one’s choice in his name.
