Maggie Wallace, of Troop 664 in the Chugiak/Eagle River area, recently worked to raise awareness of the needs of homeless teens in the service area while working on her Girl Scout Gold Award. Wallace held a charity clothing and headphones drive. The goal was to collect clothing that would allow the teens to attend school, job interviews or church without feeling self-conscious about their appearance.
Maggie’s campaign set a goal of 100 shirts and 100 pants for males and 100 shirts and 100 pants for females. Maggie collected, laundered and repaired as needed, sorted and delivered to Covenant House 1223 items of clothing and 90 sets of headphones. Maggie wishes to thank a generous community for the success of the charity drive. Covenant House expressed a continuing need for seasonably and age appropriate clothing for the 1800 teens who enter their program annually.
