Chugiak Soccer Club Tsunami defended its Alaska Airlines Cup title with a 1-0 win over Cook Inlet Velocity in the U-13 girls division June 2 at Kincaid Park.

Nicole Bedwell scored the game-winning goal and was given the Ina K award — which is presented in honor of the tournament’s original namesake Ina Kristiansen.

Cook Inlet beat Chugiak 1-0 in pool play earlier in the week. Chugiak also lost to Fairbanks Eclipse 2-1 and beat Kenai Peninsula Millennium 13-0 in pool play.

The elimination rounds were a different story, as Chugiak didn’t surrender a goal in its final two matches. Chugiak blanked Fairbanks 2-0 in the semifinal to earn a spot in the championship.

Last year, CSC Tsunami — then a U-12 team — won the Alaska Airlines Cup and the Alaska State Cup Finals, which earned the team a spot in the U.S. Youth Soccer Region IV Championships. The tournament, which features teams from 14 West Coast states, begins Monday, June 17 in Honolulu.
