July 4th Extravaganza

Published:

Gates open for this year’s Eagle River Lions Independence Day Extravaganza at Lions Park on July 3 at 6 p.m., with no entry fee or parking fee charged. Patriotic carnival-like food, music, entertainment and children activities will be available at Eagle River Lions Park, and fireworks kick off at midnight. An adult beverage garden is provided with music.

Eagle River Lions Club’s mere 55 person membership has an informal motto “It’s all for the children!”

Since becoming a member in 1995, I have to say this motto has been a driving force in this great community focused club. A testament to this fact is the very existence of the no charge community park here in our community and the clubhouse built all by volunteers. If Eagle River Lions Club did not have the vision in 1962 to get a wooded area in a land lot lease from the State Parks System to create our fantastic community park, what would there be in this town for the children? It took sweat, determination, finances and most importantly volunteerism to create this proud legacy for the community children to enjoy at no charge.

The club house is not only for member’s fellowship but also provided for the community at an affordable nonprofit price for weddings, receptions, reunions, anniversaries, other celebrations, celebrations of life, Boy Scout Troop 230 and other charitable good causes.

The Lions’ primary missions are eye sight, diabetes and community. Please realize these great contributions to our community will not continue into the future without members that want to dedicate some time to serve their community; it takes every generation volunteering (this club has no employees).

Annual membership is only $85, and your reward is the smiles of all those we help, especially the children; watch their faces when the fireworks shoot off. If you’re interested in joining please call me, Lion Chuck DuCharme, at 301-4968 and we will gladly sponsor you into one of the greatest international service organizations on the globe.

While attending this Independence Day Extravaganza Event, please don’t forget to have your children shake hands and thank the Lions you see volunteering in the gold and purple vests!

“It’s all for the children!”

Eagle River Lions Club Meetings are held every 1st & 3rd Thursday of the month at 7PM; please come join and help of legacy continue into the future generations.
