Alaska Nordic Racing (ANR) skier Sarissa Lammers had the top finish among six locals on Day 1 of the USSA Marriot Junior National Nordic Ski Championships in Fairbanks Monday, March 11.

Lammers, a junior at Chugiak High, finished 18th in the J1/OJ women's 5-kilometer freestyle race. Lammers was 1:47.3 off the pace set by Norway's Tiril Weng, who won the interval-start race in a time of 14 minutes, 19.2 seconds.

Eagle River High senior and ANR skier Hannah Stevens was 50th in the same race, 2:25.9 behind the winner. Next across the line among Chugiak-Eagle River skiers was ANR's Sam Hartke, a Chugiak High senior who was 3:02.5 behind Weng.

Lammers' older brother Isaac, a freshman at the University of Alaska Fairbanks who also skis for ANR, had the top finish among locals on the men's side, finishing 1:21 back of race winner Matti Stengshagen. Stenshagen covered the 10-kilometer course at Birch Hill Recreation Area in 26 minutes, 34.2 seconds.

Lammers was followed in 58th place by fellow ANR skiers David McPhetres in 58th (+2:14.9) and Alex Loan in 77th (+2:53.3). McPhetres is a junior at Chugiak High, where Loan recently completed his senior season of high school competition.
