Middle schools hold Nordic championships

Mirror Lake Middle School’s Brian Wing was the top local varsity finisher in the individual races at the Anchorage School District Middle School Nordic Skiing Championships Feb. 26 at Kincaid Park. Wing finished fifth in the 6th/7th grade varsity boys race. He was followed across the line by teammates Charlie Latimer in 10th and Chris Fueg in 15th. Michael Altenburg was 20th to lead Gruening.
Mirror Lake had a trio of top-10 finishes in the girls 6th/7th varsity race, with Emma Sees placing sixth, Reilly Hall eighth and Emma Nelson ninth. MLMS’ Heidi Booher was 12th, followed by Brynn Kruchoski (14th), Lauren Devin (15th) and Paris Williams (16th). Anna Ripp was 20th to lead the Colts.
In the 8th grade girls varsity race, Mirror Lake’s Olivian Mueller finished 9th to lead local girls, followed by her teammate Lilly Perham in 14th and Christina Warnke in 25th. Gruening’s Kate Paskievitch had the top finish for the Colts in 15th.
Mirror Lake’s Max Hartke won the boys 6th/7th grade junior varsity race and Mirror Lake’s Grace Nichols was third in the girls 6th/7th JV race. Jordan Meredith led local 8th grade girls JV racers in third and Mirror Lake’s Brian Jensen was fifth in the 8th grade boys JV race.
On Feb. 28, Mirror Lake’s mixed 6th/7th relay team placed second to lead all local relay teams on Day 2 of the event.
