T-Birds down Eagle River in CIC semis

East defeated Eagle River 70-41 on Friday, March 8 in the semifinals of the Cook Inlet Conference boys basketball tournament at West High in Anchorage.
The Thunderbirds held the Wolves to just 33 percent from the floor and limited Eagle River to a single double-digit scorer.
Shaquan Rhoades had 10 points to lead Eagle River, which will play in Saturday's third-place game against West at 2:30 p.m. The host Eagles fell 86-66 to top seed Service on Friday night. Rhoades also had a team-high six assists, while Nicholas Montgomery had eight points, Josh Oberlander added six and Collin Metzel had five.
Eagle River lacked in all facets of the game — rebounding, defense, free-throwing shooting — head coach Fred Young said.
"We didn't execute," he said.
East opened the game on a 15-3 run and never looked back, taking a 35-13 lead into the locker room at halftime.
Xavier Johnson led three T-Birds in double figures with 18 points, followed by Austin Hess (15) and Jarred Laws (11).
