JBER airman found dead

An Air Force Staff Sergeant was pronounced dead at his off-base residence on Feb. 23, according to officials at Joint Base Elemendorf Richardson.

Samuel Davis, 33, was recovering from recent back surgery, according to his girlfriend, who placed the 911 around 6 a.m. Feb. 23.

He was later pronounced dead by civilian responders.

The circumstances surrounding Davis’ death are currently under investigatation by Air Force Office of Special Investigations and the Anchorage Police Department.

Davis, a native of Spencer, W. Va., joined the Air Force in April 2001. He arrived at JBER in November 2011. He previous served duty at Whiteman Air Force Base, Mo., and Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio.

“Sam will be missed,” said Air Force Major Michael Bliss, 703 AMXS

commander. “He was a great member of the Air Force family. His family is in our prayers.”

A memorial service is scheduled for 9 a.m. Feb. 24 in Chapel 1 on JBER-Elmendorf.

This is the fourth military death at JBER this month: Army Sgt. Okan Murat Cetinbag, Feb. 11; Senior Airman Katrina Jackson, on Feb. 15; and Staff Sgt. Darian Miller, on Feb. 18.
