BCS advances to consolation finals
Warriors cruise past Minto 55-42
Birchwood Christian School earned a spot in the boys Class 1A state basketball consolation finals after defeating Minto 55-42 on Tuesday at West High. The Warriors will face Yakutat on Wednesday at 11:20 a.m. at Sullivan Arena.
Playing on the tournament's final day was the Warriors' goal after suffering a first-round loss to Noatak on Saturday, head coach Robert Vickers said. He said he's happy Birchwood's four seniors — Mike Rud, David Rud, Chris Manning and Caleb Duplessis — will end their high school careers on the floor of Sullivan Arena.
"I'm so glad we get to usher them out that way," Vickers said.
BCS last stepped on the floor of the Sully more than a year ago when the Warriors defeated Yakutat in the Class 2A third-place game.
Mike Rud and Duplessis scored 19 points apiece to lead BCS over Minto. Christian Baker (13 points) and Tahj Washington (12) led Minto.
Holding a two-point lead at halftime, BCS outscored Minto 30-19 in the final two quarters.
