Warriors stay alive in state tournament
Win over Russian Mission pits BCS against Minto on Tuesday
Birchwood Christian School defeated Russian Mission 65-56 on Monday at West High to stay alive in the boys Class 1A state basketball tournament.
The Warriors will face Minto in an elimination game Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. at West. A win would put BCS in the fifth-place game Wednesday at Sullivan Arena.
After a first-round loss dropped them into the consolation bracket, the Warriors' goal is to end their season at the Sully, senior Chris Manning said.
"We just want to keep going," he said.
Manning recorded a double-double (14 rebounds, 13 points) and had six blocks against Russian Mission.
"That's a game changer," BCS assistant coach Brad Rud said.
Four Warriors reached double digits. Mike Rud scored a game-high 26 points, 18 of which came in the first half. Caleb Duplessis and Tyler Keiffer chipped in 10 apiece for BCS.
Aaron Minock (24 points) and Steven Pitka (16) led Russian Mission.
