Scalloped Cabbage

Excerpted from “Something Special Alaskan Style” by the Chugiak Elementary PTA in the early 1960s.

 

1 T. butter

1 T. flour

½ tsp. salt

1/8 tsp. pepper

Melted butter

½ cup canned milk

½ cup water from cooked cabbage

2 ½ cup cooked cabbage, chopped

¾ cup bread crumbs

 

Melt butter, add flour, salt and pepper; mix well. Add milk diluted with cabbage water, slowly bring to the boiling point, stirring constantly. Add cabbage and place in greased casserole dish. Sprinkle with bread crumbs and melted butter (or oleo). Bake at 350 degrees for 20 minutes.
